David Surette Promoted to Vice President

It is with great pleasure that William A. Berry & Son, Inc. announces the promotion of David Surette to Vice President. David joined Berry in 1995 as a Project Manager assigned to Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Twelve years later, David has become a respected leader of the Berry organization. Providing outstanding leadership on the many complex projects he manages, David is a valuable asset to Berry in supporting a new level of growth.

David has risen steadily through the ranks at Berry. In 1999 he was promoted to senior project manager and in 2002 was elevated to project executive. Looking back on the projects David has completed, from renovations at Brigham and Women’s Hospital to the Harvard Medical School New Research Building, it goes without saying that his technical skills are among the best in the industry.

Beyond his ability to manage the largest and most complex projects, David exemplifies “everything that a Berry employee should be,” says Chief Executive Officer Peter Campot. “He cares about the company like it is his own. We are so fortunate to have him as part of our team.”

His professionalism, determination and drive are apparent to the clients with whom David works as well. He builds strong rapport with all of his clients and has been successful in creating many new relationships. “David is a tremendous talent. He always keeps Berry’s best interest at heart while also providing our clients with the best value,” says Shawn Donovan.

Berry was named one of the Best Places to Work

Berry was named one of the Best Places to Work in Massachusetts by
The Boston Business Journal. At an awards ceremony on June 22nd, Berry received its official ranking - #10!!
The honor recognizes Berry's achievements in creating a positive work environment that attracts and retains employees through a combination of employee satisfaction, working conditions and company culture. Berry was one of more than 300 companies who submitted, earning the #10 ranking in our size category (101-500 employees). Berry's rank was based completely on the feedback from employee survey submissions, which addressed factors such as pride in the company, company encouragement, support and recognition of achievement, and relationships with co-workers and supervisors.
We are all so proud of what we have accomplished together and we look forward to even greater success as we move forward together.

Berry Wins First Hotel Project

Berry is proud to announce that we have been awarded a hotel and condominium development project by 1265-1271 Boylston Ventures, LLC, which includes representatives from Sage Hotel Corp and The Boston Red Sox.

The project is located on the site of the Howard Johnson's Hotel, owned by the Sage Family, and former WBCN studios on Boylston Street in the Fenway area. The Red Sox are working in partnership with Sage to ensure that the "apron" surrounding Fenway Park is developed in a manner that enhances the multi-million dollar investment that the Red Sox have already put into the park.

The proposed development consists of 400,000 SF, including a Garden Inn, a Homewood Suites and approximately 200 condominiums. The development also includes 10,000 SF of retail/restaurant space and a below-grade garage for approximately 350 cars. Based on conceptual drawings, we anticipate construction costs to be roughly $80 million.

2005 AGC of Massachusetts Awards

Every other year the AGC sponsors the “Build New England Awards Program,” which recognizes project teams for excellence in project management, innovation in construction techniques, distinction in client service, sensitivity and contribution to the surrounding community, and overcoming project challenges. This year two Berry projects received an award: The Harvard Medical School New Research Building and The Boston Convention and Exhibition Center

The Harvard Medical School New Research Building earned a “Performance Award,” which is the highest acknowledgement in its category. Located in the Longwood Medical Area, the 712,000 SF New Research Building is the largest project constructed at the Harvard Medical School in nearly 100 years. The project team consisted of HMS, Architectural Resources Cambridge, Berry, BR+A, LeMessurier and more than 75 contractors, equaling over 1,000 individuals on site during the project’s busiest phases.

The Boston Convention and Exhibition Center (BCEC) earned an Honor Award. At 1,540 feet long by 820 feet wide, the BCEC’s footprint equals 32 football fields. In total, it comprises 1.7 million square feet, making it the largest convention center in the Northeast and the biggest building in New England. Members from Berry, Clark, Hunt, HNTB/Rafael Vinoly Associates, and the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority proudly accepted the award.

Congratulations to everyone involved in making these projects some of the best in New England.
